Description
The WARchive Photo Series brings the previously unpublished aviation photo collection of Will Riepl to the world.
With over 130 never before seen photos, this book provides a unique view of the famous US Air Force Century Series, the family of supersonic aircraft that includes the F-100, F-101, F-102, F-104, F-105, and F-106.
The evolution of supersonic jet fighters in the 9150s coincided with the Air Force designations reaching triple digits, leading to the name Century Series for these aircraft. The resultant operational aircraft, the F-100, F-101, F-102, F-104, F-105, and F-106, remained in US Air Force frontline service for decades, and several continued on as drones for well into the 1990s. The F-104 flew even longer internationally, with Italy finally retiring their last ones in 2004.
The Century Series all featured advanced avionics, cutting edge technology enhancements, and impressive performance, including the F-104 that held the world speed, rate-of-climb, and altitude records simultaneously. The avionics in the series went from a basic radar in the F-100 to advanced targeting radars with integrated ground control in the F-106.
This book provides a new look at these aircraft of the Century Series with photos from the late 1950s to the 1990s.
