Description
This is a deeply researched history of Dan-Air from its unintended origins in the take-over of Meredith Air Transport, through the charter heydays until the absorption into British Airways. The narrative proceeds in a largely chronological manner, recording the major aircraft acquisitions and route expansions and peppered throughout with operational anecdotes from crew and passengers. There is a chapter dedicated to the oil support operations in Scotland and another which discusses Dan-Air’s progressive attitude towards female pilots. Training, operations and maintenance are also detailed. The final three chapters discuss the protracted death of Dan-Air and the attempts to find partners, backers or purchasers. Illustrated throughout.
