Description

This is the first part of three publications about the Fokker G-1. Together they form a standard work about a piece of national aviation history. The complete story about the attack fighter, with attention to the design, technology and development of the aircraft.

The Fokker G-1 fighter cruiser was an attack fighter that was designed in 1936 by ir. Marius Beeling and Dr.ir. Erich Schatzki. The idea behind the design was a combination of a long-range fighter, reconnaissance and light bomber. An idea that also lived abroad and gave rise to various new aircraft designs. This design was particularly special because of the use of double tail booms, the most striking feature of this fighter cruiser. The Armed Forces of Military Aviation ordered 36 Fokker G-1 Mercury. These were delivered just before the war. In November 1939, an order was added for 26 G-1 Wasps, of which ten were delivered by the factory, some even up to the May Days of 1940.
