Examines the unit- and squadron-level markings applied to the Canadair CL-13 Sabre from the prototype’s first flight in 1950 to its last flight in December 1968. Covers Mk.1 through Mk.6 and all units/squadrons.
Intended to be as complete a collection as possible of the various markings that gave the aircraft its unit or squadron identities and how those markings evolved. Apart from their identification function, these unit-level markings would play a significant role in building camaraderie and esprit de corps within individual units and in giving visual form to a sense of belonging and inter-squadron competitiveness, thereby achieving ever-higher standards of excellence and preparedness. All this during that period of time in the Cold War when the tensions and the stakes could be no higher.
