From 15 May 1943, the date the Group was activated, to 22 February 1944, the date the Group flew its first combat mission, the information used is taken from diaries, letters, and other similar material. From 22 February 1944 through 8 May 1945, when the last mission was flown, the information is that taken directly from the official records of the HELL HAWKS (6,019 pieces of paper).
