Description
Bill Green was raised in New England. During his high school years the 37th FIS in the Air Defense Command was being set up, flying P-51’s and then F-86D’s and F-102’s. He often rode a bicycle four miles to the airport to watch the activity. Many years later, after a career as an international corporate executive, and twelve years as an officer in the Air National Guard, he decided to learn more about the 37th and the affiliated squadrons at Presque Isle AFB and Dow AFB in Maine and Griffiss AFB in New York. Several years of research in Air Force archives, visits to the closed bases and many interviews followed, and then resulted in this book.
Mostly told in the words of the men who flew from key bases in Maine, Vermont and New York.
