Description
Italian text and captions. SIAI Marchetti’s civil airplanes have played a decisive role in the evolution of commercial air transport in Italy and abroad since the 1920s. The book tells the history and use of seaplanes and land airplanes designed by engineers Conflenti and Marchetti: starting from the first uses of the seaplanes S.16, S.59, S.62 and the larger S.55, S.66 and SM87, the book continues with the description of the three-engine land planes S.71, S.73, SM75, S.79, SM82, SM83, as well as the four-engine S.74 and SM95, the last large passenger aircraft to be produced by the company of Sesto Calende. The book is enriched by over 160 colour and black and white images, mostly unpublished or little known, and by numerous testimonies and first-person accounts of the protagonists of the events covered. The work is completed by the technical data sheets of the aircraft and some in-depth information on specific topics.
