Description
German text and captions.
In the former GDR, there was no general aviation, as was common in western countries. The regime did not allow private aircraft; the civil aviation register was not published, and publications about the air force were subject to strict military censorship. This work is the first complete overview of the aircraft and helicopters that flew in the GDR. It is particularly valuable thanks to the extensive appendix, which contains all previously known data on commissioning and decommissioning, identifications and serial numbers as well as information about the whereabouts of the machines. The reader receives an overview of each aircraft, including the first German airliner design 152 with jet engines. This volume covers the period up to 1962 and presents 36 aircraft types. Three-sided plans and technical data complement the 27 colour plates with around 130 illustrations. They show examples of painting and license plates from Interflug, the military sports GST, the NVA, the People’s Police and the GDR aviation industry. Many previously unpublished private and archive photos are included.
