Description

The first jets of the Israeli Air Force were the British built Gloster Meteor. Initial deliveries in 1953 were the T.7 trainers, followed by F.8 fighters and FR.9 fighter/recce birds. These were followed in 1956 by NF.13 night fighters, this variant being specifically developed for operations in hot, dusty climes.

The fighters and trainers were operated by the First Jet Squadron and Knights of the North Squadron on active duty. When the First Jet Squadron went to newer planes, its aircraft were transferred to the Knights of the Orange Tail Squadron, which was primarily used for target towing. As the name implies, its aircraft were decorated with an orange tail as well as da-glo stripes on the wings and fuselage. The NF.13 was operated by the Bat Squadron. Over 120 photos, colour profiles.
